Helping Human Health

研究 using animals makes a vital contribution to the understanding, treatment and cure of many health problems including cancer, Parkinson's disease, 心脏病, diabetes and mental illness.

Animal research has been essential in developments such as:

  • antiretroviral medicines for HIV patients
  • 哮喘吸入器
  • insulin for diabetes
  • vaccine against cervical cancer, introduced in the UK for 12 and 13 year old girls
Animal work at Newcastle University is strictly controlled and regulated by the 首页 Office and ethics committees.

We work with animals when there are no suitable alternatives and strive to replace them with non-animal techniques wherever possible. 超过90% of medical research conducted at the University does not involve work on animals.
